A friend of mine from High Schoold envisioned the concept of painted quilts on barns when she was working for the Ohio Arts Council. Adams County Ohio created the first "trail", and now at least a dozen states have them. Google "Donna Sue Grove" and "Quilt Trail Project" to see more about them. While in NC earlier this summer I got to see some for the Brunsville area quilts. The idea is to honor quilts and quilters; but it has also become a very successful economic development tool. People get into their cars and drive into poor rural areas to see the quilts and then spend money with local merchants........it's a pretty big deal in many parts of the country.
