Artistic Artifacts: Row x Row Sew Musical!
The theme for this year’s Row by Row Experience is Sew Musical! The Artistic Artifacts row, Color Keys, is pictured above. It features a sheet music fabric by Tim Holtz and a variety of beautiful Palette solids by Marcia Derse. Our row uses the new horizontal Short & Sassy configuration (see below for the new row sizes and shapes).
Beginning on Thursday, June 21 and continuing through September 4, 2018, the Row by Row Experience is made for avid quilters and sewers who love to travel and love to add the next new quilt to their collection.
To join in the Row by Row fun each summer, all that’s necessary is to pay an in-person visit to us — or any participating quilt shop — and ask for your free row pattern (limited to one per person; for in-person shoppers/walk-in customers only).
New Row Sizes: Use Your Creativity!
Each year you decide what pattern to use for your quilt. And new for 2018 are several NEW row sizes (see illustration) to give you even more options as you collect rows and lay out your Sew Musical quilt! (Listed dimensions are the finished sizes; you will have seam allowances to join rows.) Stack your rows, arrange around a center medallion, make them horizontal, vertical, upside down, on the front, on the back... whatever you like — you are the designer!
Be creative and have fun, but remember, to be eligible to win, you must make certain you have used 8 different rows from 8 different participating shops. Although the quilt shops are organized by area, quilters have no borders. Travel, shop, collect patterns and add rows to your quilt from anywhere!
Quilt to Win!
Each year Row by Row quilters are eligible to win a prize stash of 25 fat quarters — 6¼ yards of fabric!
The rules are simple: complete a quilt using at least 8 different rows from 8 different 2018 participating shops, and if you are the first to bring it into a participating shop, you win. One prize per shop, as well as one prize per quilter. (A completed quilt means it must be quilted, bound and labeled to be eligible for a shop prize; the 2018 deadline for turning in a completed quilts is October 31, 2018.) In addition to the fat quarter fabric prize, most shops are offer a bonus prize for those using the store’s row in your quilt — we always do!
Each state/area has a Facebook page (visit the Row by Row website for participating shop information (for the U.S. Region; Canada and Europe also available) — shops post photos of their rows, license plates and quilts submitted for a prize (note that you do not have to be a member of Facebook to see the Row by Row photos)! Shops love to be creative with the theme each year as they work it into their row, so visit to see the wide variety in how each year’s theme is interpreted. The Virginia state Facebook page includes Artistic Artifacts: www.facebook.com/VARowbyRowExperience.
