Colorful Eco-Printed Silk Scarf with Dyann Alery BlackSaturday, June 17, 2023
10:30 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break
Most Supplies Provided! Create a one of a kind silk scarf using the eco-printing method with botanical items you bring from your own garden (or your neighbor’s). This class uses Alum Acetate as the mordant and iron water as a modifier. There will be many beautiful colors to choose from for the “base” color of your scarf. Your registration fee includes the $30 kit fee providing the 8 in. x 72 in. silk scarf, eucalyptus leaves of varying kinds, chemicals and other necessary supplies. Students are asked to bring plenty of botanical items for printing — download your supply list to view & print, which includes a list of botanical matter that prints well. Dyann notes, “We work quickly the first half of the class. This is to ensure that our scarves have enough time to ‘process’. During the processing time of 90 minutes, you are free to take lunch. Or use your class discount in the shop!” As seen in our photos, previous students have had amazing results learning this printing method using natural flowers, leaves, stems and vines and natural colorants!
About the Instructor: Dyann Alery Black is a self-taught artist who lives in El Paso, TX. Her primary mediums are mixed-media and painting with acrylics, and she loves to explore surface design techniques on fabrics.
