You will learn to create an art quilt using a hand-drawn batik panels — Artistic Artifacts works with talented Indonesian to create these beautiful 100% cotton works of art. Class begins with a brief discussion how these panels are created in a cooperative process that is led by the artist. While panels can be used to create quilts, art quilts, home décor and clothing, we’ve learned that many of our customers are afraid to cut into them or sew them. Dispel that fear with this class: bring in a panel you already own (or purchase one here), several coordinating fabrics and a few supplies and we will brainstorm ideas to create a custom small art quilt! We will begin the quilt in class and complete a much as possible; if your top is unfinished at the end of the day, you will leave with a specific plan to complete it on your own. About the Instructor: Judy Gula, owner of Artistic Artifacts, is the author of Colorful Batik Panel Quilts: 28 Quilting and Embellishing Inspirations from Around the World. Judy believes that to make art, you must live art. She finds inspiration in new and vintage materials, her interactions with other artists, and in surprising and unexpected experiences.
