Queen of Hearts with Gwen LafleurFriday, May 12, 2023
10:00 am-5:00 pm, 1 hour break for provided lunch
Inspired by Gwen’s all-time most popular class, "Angels & Icons," this workshop takes the concept of making layered and whimsical pieces based on faces in a new direction as we create fabulous mixed media portraits on top of oversized playing cards. These portraits can go in any direction — more regal and realistic, cute or quirky, or you can bring your own faces and go with an animal or other creature. (Maybe even robots or aliens!) The choice is yours, and we'll incorporate these faces into fun and maybe even funky works of art filled with layers, texture, and dimension. Gwen will share all new techniques for creating your background, a super easy method for painting your faces, and some ideas for making frames and embellishments for your portraits... and lots more!) In the end, we'll make at least one unique piece that reflects your individual style with plenty of ideas and options to continue at home. Your class kit — a $10 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of class — includes the following: jumbo playing cards for your substrates (2 sizes); selection of beads, findings, feathers, and other embellishments to share; variety of fabric scraps and trims to share; use of supplies to create frames, backgrounds, and other elements; use of heat embossing supplies, select paint and tools provided to share as well as stamps — including her latest release: visit the PaperArtsy blog for Gwen’s hand drawn faces designs and finished samples — and stencils.
