Artistic Artifacts is thrilled to be a stop on Kaffe Fassett’s Quilts in Wales Tour 2022! Mediterranean Hexagons, featured in Kaffe Fassett’s Quilts in Morocco, illustrates how the traditional hexagon is made fabulous simply through the use of color and large-scale prints — a study in using variations on a single color. Kaffe and Brandon have much more fun using strong graphic prints: large dots, fruit prints, stylized flowers, civil war reproductions and black & white prints, and note that the quilt is more successful if the points color is different from your hexagon color. The points create a frame and set off the hexagons — some participants wait to choose these fabrics until after setting the hexagons. Student Supply List:You will be provided with a set of the required Hexagons templates. In addition to a pad and pen for note-taking, please bring your rotary cutter, cutting mat, cutting ruler and a wide variety of fabrics. For the hexagons, bring 1/4 to 1/2 yard cuts of 20 or so different large-scale or geometric prints in tonally similar colors. For the points, choose 6 or so bold fabrics in two or three colors in a medium scale print. Note: when choosing fabrics, find your color and don’t stray too far from it; keep your choices harmonious. For example, if you would like to explore RED, bring reds, oranges, reddish purples, magenta, warm brown etc. The original version Mediterranean Hexagons pictured here is a study in blues and includes purples and greens, with a limited selection of shot cottons for the points. View our Kaffe Fassett fabrics. If you are not sure of your selections, bring more fabric to class rather than less. It’s much easier to have more fabrics to play with and to be able to eliminate, rather than not have enough. Kaffe and Brandon will help participants shop during the class, so be prepared to experiment and maybe purchase new fabrics to add!
Your registration fee includes:
• 2-yard cut of Kaffe Fassett’s Flannel Grid Wall
• $25 Artistic Artifacts Gift Card (valid day of workshop only)
•10% off your day of workshop’s in-store purchases
• box lunch and snacks
Suitable for the beginner (must have rotary cutting skills) to advanced quilt maker — the only requirement is an eagerness to explore color! No sewing takes place during the class, so no sewing machines are needed.
