      10:00 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break

Most Supplies Provided! “I love fabric and thread just as much as I love paper and glue. So why not combine the two?” thought Gwen Lafleur. In this full-day, in-person workshop you’ll explore a variety of techniques for using both paper and fabric, stitching and sticking your way to a textured and layered mixed media collage. If sewing isn’t your thing you can “stick” with glue. And if you do sew, the stitches can be as basic or fancy as you’d like and you can do a little or a lot — it’s all up to you. Gwen will provide stitching demos for those who want to learn the stitches in her samples. Student will combine paints with rubber stamps, paper, and fabric to make their background, learn a fun and easy technique for using stencils to create a layered focal point combining fabric and paint with stencils and paper, then finish with final accents and optional stitches. Gwen will also share a discussion and demonstration on how to combine bits and pieces to create unique embellishments to add to your piece.
Your registration fee includes a $25 materials fee, with the following provided: several options for substrates; variety of threads including pearl cotton and gold metallic; sewing needles; use of assorted mediums and glues; selection of papers, fabrics, and embellishments to share; and use of shared stencils, stamps, paints, brushes and ink pads.
Students Should Bring: Scissors (both paper and fabric if you keep them separate), baby wipes and/or paper towels and an apron if you typically use one. If you have specific materials or colors you want for your class project, you may choose to consider your own stash of the products Gwen is providing for student use — visit her website for complete details.
