This product’s “Flower” name is derived from the work of Danish artist Gerda Bengtsson, who created cross-stitch patterns for flower and herb pictures in order to encourage a resurgence of embroidery skills, and had a special cotton thread colored with vegetable dyes manufactured. While now the product is hand dyed with space dyes exclusive to Painter’s Threads (formerly known as Tentakulum), the color palettes are still matched with the shades of the original vegetable dyes.
