Boro Bag with Julie Booth
Saturday, April 27, 2019
10:00 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break

Design a beautiful hand-stitched Boro bag from special fabric scraps. Enhance your bag with patterns and details using variations of the running stitch; add a closure and lining, even learn a twining technique for creating trim and a strap. Boro is the Japanese work for “rags” and refers to the tradition of patching/mending work clothing in rural Japan in the 17th to the 19th centuries. Most of the textiles were indigo dyed and stitched with layers of running stitch, (often using decorative Sashiko patterning) to hold the many layers of cloth together. Our bags will take off from this special mending tradition. Your registration fee includes a $15 kit fee, which includes many of the supplies required. Download your student supply list »
