Owl Tjap, approximately 3.5 in. tall (end of the branch to the top of the head), 3 in. wide. Tjaps, pronounced chops, are beautiful copper batik stamps used to apply wax in the batik process. Our artisans in Indonesia handcraft these tjaps from narrow rolls of copper and copper wire, using simple tools but achieving very sophisticated effects. While designed to stamp wax patterns into fabric, tjaps are also useful to fiber and mixed media artists for creating rubbings with Shiva Paintstiks, for texturing polymer and ceramic clay, etc. With their sculptural quality tjaps also appeal to collectors for display.
