Kaffe Fassett Tour at Artistic Artifacts

Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in Wales Tour 2022

Coming this October, the Kaffe Fassett Tour 2022 will celebrate Kaffe’s 85th birthday and the launch of his latest book, Kaffe Fassett’s Quilts in Wales, available in September. Artistic Artifacts is thrilled to be a stop on this exclusive U.S. tour!

We can’t wait to welcome Kaffe and Brandon Mably to our shop, and are planning a truly special celebration event that’s worth traveling for! For out of towners or DMV residents who want to enjoy a ‘staycation’, Artistic Artifacts has negotiated a group rate —

    Hilton Alexandria Old Town
    1767 King Street
    Alexandria, VA 22314

In his lectures and workshops, Kaffe Fassett reveals how he experiences the colors and basic shapes around him, how we can train our own eyes to see this rewarding source of creativity and how we can, just as he does, combine striking fabrics with simple shapes to create our own spectacular quilt designs!

Note that due to the class size and design wall space requirements for each student, our Bubbly and Mediterranean Hexagons classes must take place in our second floor classroom (stair access ONLY).

Registration is now open for the following:

Limited to 20 students each, our two in-person classes are focused on color theory, design and cutting only; no sewing will take place. In order to allow as many people as possible this opportunity to study with Kaffe and Brandon, we are limiting attendees to one class registration only. Beginning quilters are welcome, but you must have rotary cutting skills.

Kaffe and Brandon will teach and mentor each participant in their own personal color journey through fabric choice and placement. They will help you shop during the class, advising and encouraging students to get their fabric selection just right, so be prepared to experiment — you may need/want to buy additional fabrics during your workshop. Your Kaffe Fassett Tour 2022 class registration fee includes a $25 Artistic Artifacts Gift Card (valid day of workshop only), 10% off in-store purchases on the day of your class.

Each student will have ample cutting space and the ability to work on their own design wall: a 2 yard cut of Kaffe Fassett’s Flannel Grid Wall, provided to each student as part of their fee — at the end of class, roll it up and your design is ready to be sewn together at home! A box lunch and snacks are also provided.

Kaffe and Brandon begin their classes promptly at 9:30 am; attendees must plan to arrive at Artistic Artifacts prior to 9:15 am. There will be a one-hour lunch break (lunch provided).

“Why strive for complicated, difficult to sew arrangements when simple, squares, diamonds and triangles are so endlessly fascinating as long as the colours are alive?” –Kaffe Fassett

Kaffe Fassett has inspired people across the world with his colorful work in fabric, knitting, needlepoint, patchwork, painting and mosaic. We will have additional announcements to come, so please bookmark this page and check back frequently for the latest news!
