Ischia di Castro

Create and Tour with Judy!

Artistic Artifacts owner Judy Gula works with Italian Cultural Tours to bring groups to Ischia di Castro (pictured here), located approximately 55 miles (90 kilometers) northwest of Rome in the northernmost area of Lazio. Rich in history, Ischia di Castro is strategically located to many fascinating cities, historic archaeological sites such as the ancient Etruscan city of Castro, and bodies of water.

Enjoy a vacation filled with art classes, tours, wonderful cuisine and more! Email Italian Cultural Tours to learn more about traveling with us in 2021!

Capturing a Sense of Place

Originally planned for 2020, our next Italian Creative Retreat will take place in September 2021 (exact dates to come). Judy will be joined by Liz Kettle of Textile Evolution for this exciting trip!

You will begin each morning with a Stitch Meditation, a beautiful contemplative practice created by Liz. Additional morning and afternoon studio time will focus on topics such as faux drawing watercolor and stitch (example pictured above); weaving the colors of Ischia Di Castro; fabric collage, image transfers and more! Learn new creative skills, hone old ones and more, while sampling a wide selection of products and techniques.

  • two meals a day
  • accommodations in apartments in the city
  • morning mixed media classes led by Judy Gula — all supplies provided!

Below, the historic medieval town of Bolsena sits on the north shore of a lake with the same name. A major tourist getaway during the summer, the town and lake offer boating, beaches, a museum, castle, churches, camping, shopping and a host of beautiful hotels and restaurants.
