During an Artistic Artifacts Travel Creative Retreat with Judy Gula, enjoy a vacation filled with art classes, tours, wonderful cuisine and more! Explore exciting international destinations as you learn new creative techniques, witness handcrafted products being manufactured in behind the scene visits to local factories and studios, partake in private tours of local historic sites, museums — and so much more! In 2023 Judy and Liz Kettle will return to Italy. Our first session is sold out and we are planning a second week; please see below. Plans for 2024 include Indonesia and a return to India.

2023 Italy Creative Retreat

In 2022, Judy was joined by Liz Kettle of Textile Evolution for the "Capturing a Sense of Place" retreat, and they are teaming up again for 2023, returning to Ischia di Castro! Artistic Artifacts works with Lewis Gautieri of Italian Cultural Tours to bring these one of a kind trips to you. Our September 16-23, 2023 retreat is sold out!

With response for that first session so overwhelming, we’re planning another session! This second Capturing a Sense of Place retreat would take place Monday, September 25 through Sunday, October 1. Our 2023 Artistic Artifacts Italian Cultural Tour price is $3,499 (airfare not included). Your fee includes the following:

• lunch each day and select dinners through the week
• accommodations in apartments in the city
• morning fiber and mixed media classes — all supplies provided!
• afternoon guided tours and sightseeing

Ischia di Castro, located approximately 55 miles (90 kilometers) northwest of Rome in the northernmost area of Lazio. Rich in history, it is strategically located to many fascinating cities, historic archaeological sites such as the ancient Etruscan city of Castro, and bodies of water.

India Creative Retreat

Indian textiles are a riot of color, textures and motifs, materials and mediums that changes with each region, village and community. Judy plans to return to India in 2024. Artistic Artifacts works with local companies on the ground in India, with guides who are natives of the regions they cover and have been rigorously selected for standards of client servicing, local knowledge, and passion for sharing their knowledge about local culture. In addition to hand-on textile activities such as block printing, participants in our trips enjoy opportunities to see local wildlife and visit historic temples and other sites.
