If you’ve already played with washi tape, you know this stuff is addictive. If you haven’t tried it yet, you will want to get in on the fun!
Here I’m using washi tape to decorate and bind found papers and cards for a journal, as described in my previous posting. Using washi tape is a quick and easy way to add color, pattern and design to almost any paper or mixed media art, especially because it comes in such a wide variety of colors and styles.
Because most washi tape is translucent, it is gorgeous way to add layers and depth to your work. But you’re not limited to flat surfaces: it works beautifully on wood, glass, plastic and metal too. Google washi tape or visit Pinterest and you will find hundreds of project ideas and inspirations.
While washi tape is thin and light, it is deceptively strong. Here I’ve used it to create and attach paper pockets to hold tags embellished with book text and washi tape strips.The adhesive used for washi tape is less sticky than regular tape, making it easily removable and repositionable. Most washi tapes are acid-free, so they are wonderful for use in scrapbooking.

The Cute Tape blog has an informative posting on washi tape, pointing out that not all decorative paper tape is genuine washi tape, etc. It’s a helpful read, although I confess I will continue to be part of the problem by not making these distinctions...I’m just going to use the term washi tape!
