Judy Gula’s art journal pageThe paint of choice by many mixed media artists, Stewart Gill paints are created using the finest Italian pigments, and are designed to be used both independently and layered with each other. Pictured here are two of Artistic Artifacts owner Judy Gula’s art journal pages, featuring Stewart Gill paints, vintage ephemera and a stencil from The Crafters Workshop (TCW) designed by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, 4 Flowers (TCW327). (For larger views, please click on the photos). Visit Judy’s blog to learn how she created these pages!

Judy Gula’s art journal page Stewart Gill MetaMica opaque paints are super shiny metallic lusters in a variety of beautiful shades. This is a wonderfully resilient metallic paint that stays shiny, even on fabric that goes through washing and heating processes. Mixed media artists can be confident that the shine will persist despite multiple fabric and paint layers.

The Galactica line from Stewart Gill are ultrafine glitter paints in a transparent base formula that dries completely clear — apply in layers to maximize opacity and sparkle. While Galactica can be used on paper or other surfaces, best results are seen on fabrics and, if heat-fixed, the fabric can be washed and dried, so these paints are wonderful to use on art to wear!

Byzantia Gilding Chips are super-shiny chunks of metallic luster that add an amazing, heavy-duty encrusted shine to your projects.

New Products: Fabric, Beads, More

Glass beads from BaliWe have a number of new products added to our website, including beautiful commercial batik designs! Select these while you can, as designs are turned over quickly and we often cannot reorder a popular pattern.

Anyone who knows Judy’s work knows she is a huge fan of stitching beads on her art quilts, and we’ve recently added beads that she found during her trip to Indonesia in 2012!

Detail image, vintage ledger paperLovers of vintage ephemera won’t want to miss our packages of ledger paper from the 1840s, available in two sizes: large 11" x 17" as well as a slightly smaller version. These sheets (see detail image here) are a thick high quality paper that has aged wonderfully, full of entries written by fountain pen.

And confession time...we know aren’t always perfect with tagging new products to our online store with the “new” category designation...new products can be added solely to their category, plus we also often reorganize sections of the website. For instance, we recently completed a major reorganization of our Tentakulum section — and yes, that redesign includes new products, such as Shimmer Blend RibbonFloss, a softly braided blend of rayon and metallic fibers!

Bottom line, we encourage you to periodically “poke around” when you have a few free moments. You might be surprised at what you find!

New Art Challenge Open to All!

After our wildly successful Power Suit and Arts & Old Lace art quilt challenges, Artistic Artifacts is holding a new challenge, open to anyone interested. Our Mixed Media Metallics Challenge will accept art quilts, collages, assemblages, jewelry: whatever medium you choose to work in! You must feature metal or metallic finishes in some way, and the required size is 8" x 10", but other than that, there are few constraints, so let your imagination fly. We hope you’ll participate!
