Mary Kerr Quilts on Display!

We’re currently hard at work setting up a gallery of 20 of award-winning quilter Mary Kerr’s contemporary/vintage quilts all around the store, preparing for this weekend’s event! For those of you in the Virginia, DC and Maryland areas, please make plans to join us this Sunday, April 22, 2:00 – 5:00 pm, as we host Mary Kerr and her fabulous quilts. Mary will be signing copies of her book, A Quilted Memory — Ideas and Inspiration for Reusing Vintage Textiles. “I get my energy by taking pieces and scraps from yesterday and making them into new works of art,” writes Mary on her website. “Each compilation quilt honors those who came before us and celebrates all that we are able to do and be today.”

A Quilted Memory by Mary Kerr

Mary’s books offer tips and ideas on how family memories can live on by creating contemporary quilts from vintage textiles, encouraging quilters to breathe new life into objects that otherwise stay in the trunk or the dresser drawer. A Quilted Memory features more than 100 photos showing feed sacks, doilies, and vintage clothes with meaning and stories turned into lovely modern quilts.

Enjoy this complimentary invitation to have your copy signed (copies will be available to purchase), view examples of Mary's techniques, and mingle with old and new quilting friends!

In this ongoing Art Quilt class, we’ll talk about design and composition, critique and color, concept and experimentation. Remember, registering for this Part 1 class doesn’t mean you’re a beginner; it means we all start together, form group bonds, and create a safe place to share our work.
