Owl Handmade Indonesian Copper Tjap
This owl tjap is approximately 4 inches tall from the end of the branch to the top of the head and approximately 3 inches wide. Tjaps, pronounced chops, are beautiful copper batik stamps used to apply wax in the batik process. Our artisans in Indonesia handcraft these tjaps from narrow rolls of copper and copper wire, using simple tools but achieving very sophisticated effects. While designed to stamp wax patterns into fabric, tjaps are also useful to fiber and mixed media artists for creating rubbings with Paintstiks, and appeal to collectors to display for their sculptural quality.
